Measuring for Window Coverings

 • Measuring for window treatments is much easier than most people think. Just follow these tips: Use a steel measuring tape. Measure to the nearest eighth of an inch and don't round your measurements. On your notes clearly indicate which measurement is the width and which is the height. It is very common to transpose measurements. Blinds are custom made to the sizes you give us. If these sizes are incorrect it is impossible to change the blind, so take your time and double check your measurements. Width first length second.

 • Window Blinds: Inside Mount: Measure the opening width at the top, center and bottom, recording the narrowest width. Measure the height left, right and center, recording the longest height. We will make width deductions to allow for operating clearance.
 • Window Blinds: Outside Mount: Measure the opening width frame to frame with no deduction, please inform us if returns are necessary since brackets will be exposed. Measure the opening height from the top of the frame to either the bottom of the frame or to the window sill.

Measuring Instructions

1. Dye Lots
Colours of dye lots may vary within commercial tolerances Colours of fabrics, PVC, & aluminum may vary from samples. We cannot guarantee exact dye lots as sampled THIS APPLIES TO ALL PRODUCT LINES. If two or more blinds are butted together or Installed in the same room, please inform us when placing the order so that blinds will be cut from the same dye lot. Matching dye lots may cause delay in delivery. We cannot guarantee dye lots on subsequent or different orders.

2. Random Patterns
Vertical Blinds (fabric and PVC) do not have a pattern repeat. To ensure that you do not create a pattern, when installing the louvers hang every 3rd louver as you remove it from the box.

3. Measuring
Accurate measurements are essential to properly fitted blinds. Be sure to use a quality steel tape since cloth tapes or wood rulers are not dependable for precise measurements. Measure all windows, even though they may appear to be identical. We will make the blind exactly the size ordered within tolerances of+/-1/8". The following guidelines should be used in measuring all Vertical Blinds.

4. Inside Mount
Measure the exact dimensions from one inside surface to the opposite inside surface - width first then length. To allow for clearance in inside mounts we recommend that you measure the exact width where the head rail will be installed and deduct 3/8" from width and 3/4" from height. Specify ceiling mounts.

5. Outside Mount
Measure the exact width and length to be covered - width first then length, including overlap. We recommend overlapping the opening at least the width of a vane on each side (i.e.: 5" each side). Overlap the height at least 2" above the opening or moulding and at least 3" below the sill. If measuring to a floor, leave approximately 3/4" clearance. Specify wall mounts.

6. Ceiling Mount
If the blind is to be wall to wall, see inside Mount. If a ceiling mount blind will only overlap the window (not wall to wall), we recommend overlapping the opening at least the width of a vane on each side (i.e.: 5" each side) Always allow 3/4" clearance for floor to ceiling measures Specify ceiling mounts.

7. Electric Heaters
Due to the high temperatures associated with electric heaters, we recommend you allow for the following clearances when blinds will be close to electric heaters:
Fabric Louvers must be installed at least 4" above or 3" in front (open position) of any electric heater(s).
P.V.C. Louvers must be installed at least 10" above or 4" in front (open position) of any electric heater(s).
